Moving – a stressful and difficult event regardless of who you are and where you live. Moving in NYC – a whole new stressful experience unlike moving in any other city.
When my fiancé and I moved to the city a year ago, we had a day to find a place. This included seeing, applying, and signing. If you’re unfamiliar with renting in New York City, the advice is always “if you see a place you like, be ready to apply on the spot”. This turned out very true. We scheduled multiple showings with brokers for that one day and all but two cancelled. So, we took what we liked on the Upper East Side that afternoon.
It was a quaint place that served us well for our first year. However, this spring we decided to find a new apartment we could see ourselves living in for a few years. This time we were afforded the luxury of having almost a month to look. So we’ve moved further downtown in a perfect apartment ready for some decorating and design help.
Currently, I’m in the process of planning and designing and Pinterest has been my main source of inspiration. My apartment style and decoration consists mainly of shabby chic home decor with a french country feeling. I have such a hard time defining the exact style I want so I rely mostly on images I find. The images I’m using below are kind of a mix of different designs and decor I really like. Lots of white, pops of color, rustic decor, farmhouse touches, but I want to keep it modern and minimal. Plus, it’s so fun to scroll through Pinterest finding images for inspiration and then translating it in my own style!
I hope to share images of my apartment as it becomes more put together. We are slowly replacing the old furniture with new and still trying to get organized from moving.
